Performance optimisation of a JavaScript calendar visualisation for a maritime company – nearly 20 % faster, half the data, followed by architecture consulting.

Context
Uniteam Marine, a shipping company, visualised calendar entries in a web application built on a JavaScript framework. Rendering was too slow and more data was transferred than necessary.
My role
I was brought in as a software architecture consultant to speed up this front-end functionality.
Approach
- Analysing the rendering and loading paths of the calendar view
- Optimising rendering within the JavaScript framework
- Slimming down the transferred data structures
Result
Rendering became nearly 20 % faster and the transferred data was halved. Building on that, I took part in the general architecture discussions to speed up the backend as well – from 2009 to 2011.
